City & County Police
NYPD Police Officer

NYC opens a new two-week filing window every month, with testing the following month. Apply through the NYC DCAS online application system (OASys); there is no application fee.
LAPD Police Officer

- Multiple-choice test in a half-day session in Los Angeles, or you can request to take it remotely from home
A passing score never expires. You can skip the test with a California PELLETB T-score of 42 or higher, a qualifying FrontLine National score, or a POST Basic Course completion or waiver.
LA County Sheriff's Deputy

Dallas Police Officer

- Police Officer Trainee application on NEOGOV, with qualifying documents attached (such as college transcripts or a DD214)
- Test
- Once your documents are verified, you're emailed a link to take the Civil Service exam online
The exam has a 3-hour time limit and several modules, and you must pass every module to pass the test.
State Police & Statewide Exams
Pennsylvania State Police Cadet

PSP runs a new selection cycle every two months, and you must submit a new application for each cycle.
Texas DPS State Trooper

- C-2027 Recruit School: applications open until Feb 19, 2027; school starts Aug 22, 2027
- Peace officers
- B-2027 Advanced Peace Officer School: apply by Dec 31, 2026; starts June 20, 2027
Applicants must also pass the DPS physical readiness test, and the score counts toward your ranking.
Florida CJBAT (all Florida agencies & academies)

- Book through Pearson VUE, at least 24 hours ahead ($39)
- Test
- CJBAT-LEO for law enforcement, CJBAT-CO for corrections, at a test center you choose
Scores are valid for 4 years. You can take the test up to 3 times in a 12-month period.
New Jersey Police (LEE)

- Applications closed Mar 31, 2026; testing held July – August 2026
- Next
- The LEE is usually announced once a year; the 2026 exam was posted March 1
One LEE application can cover up to four law enforcement title areas, such as municipal police, sheriff's officer and county correctional police.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Cadet

- PELLETB written exam + Physical Abilities Test, in the Division you choose
You can't change Divisions after applying, and you must wait 30 days between PELLETB attempts. Start preparing now so you're ready when the next window opens.
New York State Trooper

DEA Special Agent

The online assessment invitation can take several weeks to arrive after you apply.
FBI Special Agent

- Phase I: about 3 hours, computerized and proctored; invitation by email after screening
Failing Phase I twice ends your eligibility for the Special Agent position, so prepare before you test.
CBP Officer

- Experience Record and Writing Skills Test at home, then the Logical Reasoning Test at a test center
Announcements are open for a limited time. If you don't complete your exam steps, your application is treated as abandoned and you have to reapply in the next open period.
Border Patrol Agent

- Experience Record plus the Logical Reasoning Test, on a computer at home or at a test center
You must be referred for selection before your 40th birthday, unless you're eligible for veterans' preference or have covered federal law enforcement service.
TSA Officer (TSO)

- Test
- Proctored computer-based test (CBT) at a nearby test center, by invitation after eligibility screening
You must schedule and finish the CBT within 21 days of the invitation, or your application closes.
FBI Police Officer
